In the beginning of 2009 I was in mental and emotional chaos. I was feeling even more anxious than before (I suffer from anxiety disorder) and this interfered a lot with my daily activities.
I felt afraid of driving my car, especially in higher traffic areas. I had terrible sleep even after taking sleep medication. I woke up very tired every day to the point that I had to take stimulants to keep myself awaken during the day.
Life seemed to be a huge burden to be carried.
I had tried several types of therapies before, and even though I was in good physical shape, had a good diet and practiced exercises three times a week, nothing seemed to significantly reduce my anxiety, improve my sleep or make any improvements in my life. Physical exercise was one of the only things that had more impact on my level of anxiety and general well being, but was still not enough to help me deal with certain situations without taking tranquilizer or running away. The other thing that had significantly helped me in the past was SSRI antidepressant.
I went to a sleeping clinic, where besides making sure that I was following good sleeping habits the doctor prescribed all sorts of different medications to improve my sleep. None of these helped me and I always woke up feeling like crap, besides having drowsiness due to the medication.
One day I decided to go again to a cognitive-behavioral therapist. I explained my problems to her. She gave me some assignments to do at home. She also asked me to buy a book which contained the techniques on which the therapy would be based. And she also asked me to try some relaxation CDs, which she said, “will not eliminate your anxiety but will help to reduce it”. I found later that these CDs were a meditation program called Holosync, from Centerpointe Institute.
I did not really want to buy the CDs, because I had tried self-hypnosis and relaxation CDs before without any success. I thought “here it is one more of those products that promise things but end up not helping at all”.
I decided to give it a try and ordered the first level called “Awakening Prologue”.
The first time I heard the CD I felt completely relaxed. The only thing that had made me feel so relaxed like this before was tranquilizer medicine.
I had practiced traditional meditation for several months some time ago, but I had never felt so relaxed as I felt with my first session of the Holosync program. It is like Bill Harris, the creator of this program and Director of Centerpointe, says – that unlike traditional meditation, you don’t have to focus on anything while you are listening to the CD, because it is the technology behind it that creates the deep meditation states.
It is been almost one year since I started using this program. I sleep better than before. Now I rarely take sleeping pills. I have more energy and I virtually quit taking stimulants to help me go through the day. I feel a little happier and it seems that I have more patience with things in general.
I haven’t noticed any significant improvement on my anxiety disorder yet, which was the reason why I started using Holosync. But I have good reasons to believe that with persistent use of this program my anxiety will get better.
